Bush Craft is a new club run by Geoff Mason - Director of Wood Learn Forest School www.forestschooliow.co.uk. It is a chance for children to learn and gain new skills, whilst learning in the outside classroom. The 'extra' bit of land at the bottom of the field has been utilised for this club. The children, on a weekly basis, get to learn about the local environment and what food they could scavenge if needed. How to build a shelter to protect themselves from the elements. As well as using tools such as hand drills, saws, hurricane kettle and throwing sticks (used by Aborigines to catch their prey).
The children wrap up warmly and have learnt how to build and start a fire. They are all looking forward to having a hot chocolate and melted Marshmallows in the final week!
